Angel Food Ministries helps those in need with groceries

FALLBROOK — Angel Food Ministries is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian organization which provides grocery relief to people across the US. This ministry had its start in a small mill town in Good Hope, GA, back in 1994 and now is in more than 30 states providing quality groceries at discounted prices to more than 500,000 families each month. It is designed to give folks a hand up when a little bit of extra help is needed.

Angel Food groceries are sold by the box at $30 a unit and each month there are additional specials which can also be ordered. The basic box contains meat; chicken; frozen vegetables; staples such as rice, potatoes, eggs and shelf-stable milk; and a dessert item. Each month there is a new menu which describes the basic unit and the specials for that month.

The September menu is offering a great Senior Box with 10 individual meals that just need to be heated and served. This box is $25. Angel Food suggests that there is a 40- to 60-percent savings on their groceries. There are no qualification requirements and the program is designed to give a helping hand to everyone in the community.

Fallbrook Presbyterian Church, at 463 South Stage Coach Lane, is the host site for this area and orders may be placed at the church office during a designated time each month. For September, the office will be open Tuesday, September 9, through Friday, September 12, from noon to 4:30 p.m. to take orders.

Groceries must be paid for at the time the order is placed and payment may be made by cash, money order or EBT food stamps. The distribution date for September is Saturday, September 27, from 10 a.m. to noon; at that time, participants may place their orders for the following month.
