Worldly matters

The past few generations of American Christians have become less and less involved in the affairs of the nation, tending to take the view that such involvement is earthly and unspiritual (or not related to the building of God’s Kingdom). Such sentiment may seem, at first glance, to be spiritual, but in reality is a rejection of the Christian’s call to be the salt and light of his or her world (Matt 5:13-16).

This Christian disengagement from national or cultural affairs leaves those affairs in the hands of people who do not have the benefit of Scriptural wisdom and dooms those affairs to corruption and rot. As Christians have increasingly ceded the moral high ground of society to the Bible-rejecting secularists, we have seen our society rapidly putrefy toward the image of Sodom and Gomorrah.

We Believers must change this. We are still human beings, and the Bible is very clear that the earth was created for and meant to be governed by humanity. This means that the affairs of this planet are our affairs, and we had best see to them once again. We are people of Truth, and we serve the Risen Lord. We must, therefore, believe that we know better than the unenlightened secularists what is best for our nation and our culture, and put our efforts to molding our nation and culture in keeping with Biblical ideals and morals.

Our opponents will cry foul, of course, insisting that we cannot legislate our morality. However, we must recognize that such an argument is nearly infinitely idiotic. All legislation is morality. Through legislation, it is decided by a people what is right or wrong or what is good or bad or what is better or worse. That is morality. The only question is whose morality is being legislated or normalized. Let us make every effort to ensure that it is ours once again.

America became the greatest nation in our world’s history because a Godly and Scripture-saturated generation of our forefathers staked the success of our nation and its founding documents upon Biblically-structured ideals and morality. God always honors those who honor His Word, and so America was blessed and became the greatest national source of salt and light since Solomon’s Israel. We have lost that greatness and are rotting from within because we have left the Godly moorings of our nation’s founding. Let us return to those moorings and become involved; be salt and be light. All is not yet lost but soon will be if Christians do not once again step up to the plate of earthly affairs and swing away.
