'Hot Off the Press' event Sept. 27-28

FALLBROOK — The Printmakers of San Diego County are planning an exciting event entitled “Hot Off the Press.” The event will be held September 27-28 at the Fallbrook School of Art, located at 310 East Alvarado Street.

The event will include a two-day monotype workshop, conducted by Dixon Fish concurrently with an exhibition and sale of the members’ work, also at the school. A closing reception will be held at the exhibition on September 28 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Monoprints and monotypes are one-of-a-kind prints sometimes called the “painter’s prints.” Also used are Plexiglas plates, onto which the artist “paints” or combines painting with stencils or other matrix to create the image. The plate is then printed onto printmaking paper in the printing press.

The finished print is a “creation,” which changes the image somewhat and brings the printing process to an exciting conclusion.

This two-day program allows ample time for individual exploration of this quick process of creating a one-of-a-kind print. For those who like to paint, use watercolors or collage, this is a great introduction to printmaking.
