Bender speaks about water cutback

BONSALL — Water shortage and conservation was one of the main topics Gary Bender, PhD, San Diego County Farm Advisor, discussed with Bonsall Rotarians at a recent meeting.

The agricultural mandatory 30-percent reduction can be effected in many ways, Bender said, some of which can, in the long term, be beneficial to the grower. By cutting back trees selectively, money can be saved in picking expense by having shorter, easier-to-pick trees. However, a recent study has shown reducing water to avocados by 10 percent can reduce production by as much as 50 percent!

Bonsall Rotary meets every Thursday morning at the San Luis Rey Country Club. More information is available at http://www.bonsallrotary.com.
