Warrior post-game gatherings, more new at Hukilau

In the past three years, the Hukilau Restaurant, nestled within the Fallbrook Golf Club complex, has undergone impressive and exciting changes.

In addition to a cosmetic facelift and scrumptious new menus, this restaurant is positioning itself to be the premier Fallbrook High School Warriors post-game destination and all-around college and pro football hot spot.

When Stacy Hart, owner of the Fallbrook Golf Club, brought John Toma onboard to take control of the club restaurant, they agreed they both wanted to offer a place where members of the community could connect in a fun atmosphere.

“We wanted to connect with the community,” said Toma, “and it is such a great feeling to know that this is happening.”

For both home and away game nights, Hukilau will have their “Warrior Doors” open from 9 p.m. to midnight. “The post-game meal for the players will be on us,” said Toma. “We’ll also have raffles and promotions for the students and players, too.”

The post-game Warrior Menu will consist of their lunch and dinner casual fare, Toma explained, brimful of hamburgers, sandwiches and salads.

While the players, students, faculty, family and fans enjoy a meal, they will also have the opportunity to watch the post-game report (like the “Prep Pigskin Report”). New flat-screen high-definition TVs will be strategically positioned throughout the facility.

“I wanted to have the ability to show this local coverage to everyone after the game,” Toma said.

This great entertainment venue, equipped with a cozy patio and fire pit, is the ideal social center where Warriors and their fans can chat and recap the game.

“We really wanted to host these post-football game events because I remember how great it was to have those traditions when I was playing sports back in high school,” said Toma.

In addition to the post-game gatherings, Hukilau also hosts the Fallbrook Community Student of the Month program and Annual Senior Breakfast.

With the recent installation of the Direct TV NFL Package, Hukilau will undoubtedly become the hub for college and pro football sport fans from Thursday to Monday nights. “Every single game can be shown on our screens,” noted Toma.

Monday Night Football at Hukilau promises to be a night filled with great social fun and raffles galore.

“We have created value and good food for $5.95,” said Toma. “I will have a chef and a carve station where people can choose from brisket of beef, corned beef and turkey onto the sandwich roll of their choice.” Side dishes of macaroni, pasta and potato salads will complement the sandwiches and cold brew will be available.

“Our pitcher beer specials are $8 for domestics and $9 for imports,” Toma said.

As soon as activity lulls after Monday Night Football each week, it picks right up with Taco Tuesday. From 11 a.m. to closing time, guests can munch on a tasty taco for a buck.

“Taco Tuesday has been a big success,” Toma said. “For $1, you can get carne asada, carnitas or chicken on a corn or flour tortilla.”

Since Toma created the Hukilau experience three years ago, he and Hart have come up with a game plan for the community of Fallbrook. “The whole process evolved over time,” said Toma. “Our new image came with a clean facility, consistent good food and great service.”

Toma’s diligence and hard work has paid off, because Hukilau continues to exceed established profit goals each month. Staff members, the majority of whom are Fallbrook High students and alumni working during their college breaks, have been commended for their team spirit in the workplace.

Hukilau continues to provide new and innovative food and entertainment experiences in which the golfer, non-golfer and people both young and old can unwind in a beautiful rural setting.
