High school yearbook takes first place for second year

FALLBROOK — For the second year in a row, the Moccasin, yearbook of Fallbrook High School, has won first place honors at the San Diego County Fair.

“This is a testament to the hard work and diligence of some very special staff members,” said Dave Evans, yearbook advisor for the past two years. “Special recognition goes to our editor-in-chief, Nahum Villalobos; associate editor, Channing Shattuck; senior ads editor, Elaine Cholger; and senior copyeditor, Ashley Baker. Behind the leadership of these students and the team effort of the entire staff, the Moccasin once again reached new heights.”

The judges awarded the Moccasin a perfect score for appearance (50/50) and consistency (75/75) and a near-perfect score (280/300) for content and coverage. “The Moccasin is an overall clean, beautiful yearbook,” the judges noted. “Both the end sheets and cover are excellent.”

For their efforts, Evans awarded Villalobos, Shattuck, Cholger and Baker $2,500, $1,500, $500 and $500 scholarships, respectfully. All staff members were awarded certificates of recognition.

“Every year the staff is different but one thing never changes: we always strive to produce a memorable yearbook of which students, their parents and guardians and the school and community can be proud of,” Evans said. “This year we intend to go to a whole new level, entering one or more national competitions for the first time.”
