Library offers business research presentation

Searching for business information can be a complex, daunting task. The staff of any public library is skilled at helping familiarize customers with the tools and resources that are available. A presentation, “Research at Your Library,” will be held Thursday, September 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Fallbrook Library, 124 South Mission Road.

Search techniques for online library catalogs will be discussed. Attendees who bring their laptop computers will receive hands-on exercises showing how to search “OPAC,” the library’s “online public access catalog,” and “Circuit,” the San Diego Library Consortium, linking resources from SDSU, UCSD, the University of San Diego and CSU San Marcos.

Search techniques for business Web sites will be reviewed, including several practical exercises using the Small Business Administration Web site. Other business resources will be introduced, including the San Diego County Library “premium” databases (pay-to-use resources, free for library customers) and local and national sites of business interest.

Those curious about the NAIC or SIC industry classification systems will be shown how to match one with the other.

To access the premium business database, and to participate in the interactive session with a laptop computer, attendees must bring an active library card, along with their library personal identification number (PIN). Those without a laptop computer are welcome. A printed copy of the presentation will be distributed at the end of the workshop.

For further information, including how to set up a PIN, call (760) 728-3941 or visit the Fallbrook Library.
