A bittersweet move

I started Controltec in my home’s spare bedroom on Foxfire Road in Fallbrook in 1993. We first rented an office in the Seers Industrial Building on East Mission. Then we moved into a suite on East Alvarado before we leased the building on South Main on September 15, 1996. Twelve years later to the day, we’re moving out.

Initially, everyone who worked at Controltec lived in Fallbrook. Now, most of our almost 40 employees commute from Temecula, Murrieta, Oceanside and San Diego. When our Fallbrook office became too small in 2006 and there was no real estate available to accommodate us, we moved our operations group to Escondido.

Now we have decided that maintaining two separate offices is too disruptive to our business and we’re bringing everyone back together. Our new office is located right across the street from the Escondido Transit Center.

This is bittersweet for me. I raised my children in Fallbrook. I coached youth soccer and volunteered in the schools. The little country town was always a great place to work. I will miss the Wayside Café across the street. I will miss walking down Main Street for lunch. And I will miss Larry and Steve next door at Scrappy’s, who were great neighbors during all those years. We could always just toss them our car keys and know that the job was going to get done right.

We are proud of having had our start in Fallbrook, and we will always look back fondly to those years.
