Bickel receives award from President Carter

SAN MARCOS — California State University, San Marcos’ “Tutor Connection” program is one of three programs in the nation that received the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award this year.

CSUSM student and Fallbrook resident Tanja Bickel was chosen by the directors of the program, CSUSM professors John Halcon and Michelle Lustig, to go to Atlanta to receive the award, where they met with President and Mrs. Carter in June.

Bickel is in the teacher credential program to become a middle school teacher. She was a participant in and contributor to Tutor Connection.

As part of the award presentation, Bickel had the opportunity to meet former President Carter and his wife. She is very proud and honored to have an opportunity that not many are afforded in a lifetime.
