FPUD ratepayers be aware

In 2006 I sent a letter to the FPUD board c/o Keith Battle attempting to raise issues about increasing water rates and fees. I also questioned why there was no discount for qualified low-income seniors like SDG&E and the phone company provides. The general manager, Keith Lewinger, intercepted my letter, called me and said they could not give seniors a discount without charging other ratepayers more.

In June, I had a letter in the North County Times in which I tried to stimulate ratepayers to attend the June 23 meeting, which was postponed to June 30. Of course, the power structure at FPUD voted for all the increases and they were implemented July 1.

Phyllis A. Brown had a letter in the 9/4/08 Village News in which she outlines all the increases that have taken place in the last 1 ½ years. This is a disaster for all who are on fixed incomes.

We have an overpaid general manager and it appears the board just gave him a bonus.

Mr. Battle followed me to my car on June 30 to convince me of his and the board’s “good intentions” and told me the sewer infrastructure and debt was paid off. Why are we now being charged $92 for sewer service? What exactly do we get for the $70 operations charge?

In comparison, my son and his family of four live in Costa Mesa and their monthly water/sewer bill is $38. I believe we are being gouged by the FPUD power structure.
