Fallbrook field hockey crushes Hilltop 3-0

The Fallbrook High girls’ field hockey team faced the Hilltop Lancers on September 23.

The Warrior defense performed on a high level as usual. The Lancers could not hold off Fallbrook’s powerful offense. The Warriors shut out the Lancers 3-0.

In the first half, Fallbrook brought on early pressure. This led to a goal by Lady Warrior Lauren Hughey. However, officials questioned the score and the goal was called back due to a Warrior foul.

The erased goal did not matter for Fallbrook. Lauren Hughey scored once again, with an assist from Kyle Little, five minutes later. This time, the goal went undisputed.

The Lancers had no answer for the Warriors’ crisp control of the ball. Thirteen minutes into the half, Fallbrook’s Michelle Valencia scored with yet another assist from Kyle Little.

“I thought it was great,” replied Little when asked her thoughts on the two-assist performance. At the end of the half, Fallbrook led 2-0.

The Lancers continued to struggle against the flawless Warrior defense in the second half. Hilltop had the ball stolen or intercepted on many occasions. Fifteen minutes into the period, Fallbrook captain Lydia Brambila scored a goal to seal the victory.

“I’m happy with the score and the overall team performance,” said Fallbrook coach Kathy Waite after the game.

Junior varsity wins as well

The junior varsity Lady Warriors also played the Hilltop Lancers.

Fallbrook controlled the tempo early and Ali Copeland scored 10 minutes into the first half. Three minutes later, Copeland scored once again to give the Warriors a comfortable lead.

The second half only increased the Lancers’ frustration. Fallbrook’s Jamie Garcia proved to be a pain for Hilltop as she snagged and stole the ball repeatedly throughout the game.

The final score was 2-0.
