'Decades of Conflict' show to pay tribute to American military

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Art Center is holding a reception for its “Decades of Conflict” show on Saturday, October 18, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The show pays tribute to this country’s military with a compelling, compassionate look over the past 67 years of American military involvement. It showcases 26 artists displaying works of art using a variety of mediums: oils, photography, stoneware clay sculpture, ceramic, acrylics, copper, enamel, watercolor and metal.

“Decades of Conflict” explores the period 1941-2008 and the many realities of war experience during that time, from those who fought to those at home, and the undeniable influence on everyone’s life.

Through the language of art, the exhibition seeks to engage the public in a broad-based dialogue that promotes awareness, understanding and healing. The show includes military artifacts, personal photos and stories, as well as historical and contemporary works of art.

Supervisor Bill Horn, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam, will give a welcome speech at 5:15, while USAF Co. Robert Krone (Ret.) will give an opening night presentation at 5:45.

Collaborative partners for this show are USMC Camp Pendleton, Fallbrook’s VFW Post 1924, Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce and Fallbrook Historical Society.

The community and show visitors are invited to add their own photos and stories from the period to a timeline wall that will grow throughout the show, which runs through November 16.

Fallbrook Art Center is located at 103 South Main at Alvarado. For non-members the reception costs $10; after that day, the show costs $5; FAC members, children under 18 and all active military and their families are free at the reception and the show.

The Art Center is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday noon to 3 p.m. For more information, call (760) 728-1414.
