Are we cruisin' for a bruisin'?

I’ve had my snooter firmly implanted in the Book of Jeremiah as of late. He was a prophet sent by God. Jer 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Notice how it says: “the nations.” And what was he to prophesize? In Jer 2:7-8, God said: “I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce. But you came and defiled my land and made my inheritance detestable… Those who deal with the law did not know me; the leaders rebelled against me.” Jer 2:19: “Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you. Consider then and realize how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the LORD your God and have no awe of me.” As my grandma used to say, keep it up and you’ll be cruisin’ for a bruisin’.

When you observe the moral climate of today, it makes you wonder how far we are from the “or else” of God’s wrath. Are we exhibiting actions very far off from Sodom and Gomorra? Do we really think God is sleeping on the job? He has to be pretty fed up with our wayward ways by now, wouldn’t you think? We’ve taken his name out of our schools. Every kind of morally corrupt act is just a click away on our TV screens. The unthinkable fifty years ago is morally acceptable as some kind of right we have secured. Who is setting our standards on morality? Are God’s commandments? From what I read in the Bible and what is going on, I don’t think so. Are we supposed to embrace those who condone killing babies as acceptable leaders of our country? Unlike popular belief, we still don’t have that right. We don’t have the right to make a mockery of the institution of marriage condoning what the Bible states as sin. We are seriously cruisin’ for a bruisin’.

In the book of Jeremiah, as now, we have a chance to turn away from these atrocities. God has smiled down on our country for the last 200 years but that’s when we proclaimed one country under God. Morality meant something. We were a humble, obedient people just starting out. Now we are power-hungry world leaders who have for the most part forgotten our God and his mandates. Look at our crashing economy. Is it just a coincidence? I don’t think so.

As Christians we have a moral obligation to take the upcoming election seriously and vote according to the Word of God. What leaders are behind traditional family values? Who deems killing innocent babies as a choice? What are the propositions really proposing? Make educated choices based on scripture. Let’s show our God that what he deemed as truth still matters. Let’s prove our nation is still under God by the way we vote. We need to proclaim by our actions that our faith still matters.

Jer 6:16: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”
