Warrior spirit runs high as FHS alums enjoy multi-class reunion

Old friends were reunited at Live Oak Park, which was ablaze with red tablecloths and red shirts, at the multi-class reunion of Fallbrook Union High School. The event, attended by 100 guests, was held on Sunday, October 19; and included the Classes of 1932 through 1970.

One family had a representative of both the first and the last class in attendance. Ronald Patton, Class of 1970 attended the reunion with his father, Barney Patton, Class of 1932. Barney was the only one from the Class of 1932 in attendance. Both men live in Fallbrook. Ronald mentioned that the multi-class reunion was a good idea because it gives a chance for more alumni to interact. One memory Barney has of FHS was when the students heard a quail sound and were looking all around for the bird. It turned out that their principal had perfected a “quail call” and used it to fool the students!

The multi-class reunion was the brainchild of the Class of 1958’s board. Darwin East, chairman, and the rest of the group, thought it would be a good idea to invite members of other classes to their reunion. East had some annuals and photographs on hand for the group which helped with the reminiscing. His class is also creating an album with updated information on classmates that will be distributed to all members. While perusing the FHS ’58 annual I discovered that East had been voted “Most Courteous”. This “Most Courteous” man is making copies of his ’58 annual for several class members who have lost their own.

Margaret Hindorff Ray, who is a native of Fallbrook and a descendent of a Fallbrook pioneer family, attended the reunion as one of two members of the Class of 1943. Dode Martin was the other. An alum from an even earlier class was Marion Clemmens of the Class of 1936.

The lunch was catered by Dalton’s Roadhouse in San Marcos. The alumni enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, coleslaw, “red river beans” and homemade peach cobbler. It was mentioned by many how the weather was just perfect for an outdoor reunion – a slight breeze was blowing and the temperature was about 75 degrees.
