Fallbrook, Bonsall lose to fight hunger

FALLBROOK — According to Feeding America, 99 percent of food banks surveyed experienced an increase in the number of low-income Americans turning to soup kitchens and food pantries for assistance this year.

To help support these needs locally, the Weight Watchers groups in Fallbrook and Bonsall joined to fight two global epidemics – hunger and obesity – by participating in the Lose for Good campaign.

As part of Lose for Good, the group kicked off a volunteer food drive to help relieve local hunger by supporting the Fallbrook Food Pantry. Since last month, they have lost more than 450 pounds and collected food to celebrate each weight loss.

“We were able to donate 300 pounds of food,” said Jane Kemp. “I’m glad that our losses, no matter what the amount, are truly someone else’s gain now. Just imagine how many mouths in our community could be feed if each person who lived here donated just a little bit.”
