Fallbrook field hockey falls 4-0 to San Pasqual

On October 21, the Fallbrook girls’ varsity field hockey team hosted the San Pasqual Eagles. The Lady Warriors struggled throughout the game. A defense that normally gives up less than a goal per contest allowed the Eagles to score four times. In addition, Fallbrook’s offensive leaders were held scoreless as San Pasqual swiftly shutout the Warriors 4-0.

The Eagles took control of the game right from the start. They quickly set the tempo and kept Fallbrook’s goalie, Jahna Jordan, on her toes. A few minutes into the game, San Pasqual earned a penalty stroke. However, the opportunity was erased as Jordan briskly pounced on the Eagles’ shot.

Soon after, San Pasqual scored to put the Warriors behind 1-0. As the game progressed, the Eagles weaved the ball through the Fallbrook defense with little difficulty. This forced Fallbrook coach Kathy Waite to call a timeout. The breather did nothing to faze the Eagles as they quickly notched another score. San Pasqual led 2-0 at the end of the first half.

The Warriors continued to play on defense in the second half as the Eagles had possession of the ball for the majority of the game. Minutes later, San Pasqual knocked in their third score of the match. The Eagles kept up their fierce attack obtaining another penalty stroke. Fallbrook was relieved to see the ball roll wide to the left of the goal. Later, San Pasqual decided to run up the score racking up their fourth goal.

The painful game for Fallbrook ended in a loss of 4-0. Fallbrook defender Lizzy Eskue, however, put the loss in a positive perspective. “You know, you can learn a lot from a loss. You can learn a lot more from a loss than a win,” she said.

Coach Waite looked at the game a different way as well. “We have some things to clean up, but the good thing is that we get to play them again,” said Waite.

Fallbrook had many opportunities to score; however, the Eagles’ defense proved to be impregnable. The Warriors lost 1-0.
