GANAS program looking for new mentors

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook GANAS (Guide, Advise, Nurture and Support) program, which seeks to provide a positive influence on local youth ages 9 to 14, is currently seeking new mentors (volunteers) to help expand the program.

Trained staff members provide activities which encourage at-risk children to develop leadership skills by offering them constructive alternatives and positive life choices.

Currently, programs take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Learning Center at Fallbrook View Apartments at 901 Alturas Road and on Wednesdays at Turnagain Arms Apartments at 920 East Mission and Summer Ridge Apartments at 818 East Alvarado Street.

These three mentoring programs were established by the Fallbrook Citizens’ Crime Prevention Committee to help steer kids away from gangs. Mentors are needed to provide the positive role models to make it work.

The next training session for new volunteers/mentors is planned for December 1. TB test and fingerprint screening is required.

For more information, call Program Coordinator Patsy Loughboro at (760) 728-6918 or Program Administrator Pat Braendel at (760) 731-9127.
