Oceanside smashes Fallbrook to win cribbage match

VISTA — After losing seven out of the eight previous matches, the Oceanside cribbage team got some revenge as they smashed Fallbrook in the October 23 Senior Challenge Cribbage match.

Oceanside won 80 games to 60 for Fallbrook in the 40-player match. Oceanside’s total point spread of 590 pegs was aided by 14 skunks to Fallbrook’s five.

The top six places were taken by Oceanside players led by Lilo Mendizza with six wins of which three were skunks.

In second and third were Bob Rebar and Fred Kreutzkamp, who each had six wins and two skunks. A longtime cribbage player, this was Fred’s first time playing in the Senior Challenge.

Marge Schultz and Cheryl Selvaggio were fourth and fifth with six wins and no skunks. In sixth was Carol Riccitelli with five wins and one skunk.

Chuck Grow of the Oceanside team won a $15 gift card donated by Albertsons on Oceanside Boulevard and $10 gift card donated by CVS Pharmacy in Fallbrook.

The Senior Challenge is open to any one who likes to play cribbage. For more information call Eileen Haworth at (760) 940-1475 or e-mail [email protected].

The monthly matches are held at the Vista Elks Lodge at 1947 East Vista Way, normally on the fourth Thursday of the month, beginning at 12:30 p.m. However, because of Thanksgiving, this month’s match is moved up one week and will be held on November 20.
