Lehmann named Music Society Volunteer of Year

FALLBROOK — Fallbrook Music Society’s Board of Directors recently nominated Spencer Lehmann to receive its Volunteer of the Year award for his many years of service to the organization.

The award was presented on Thursday, November 6, during the North County Philanthropy Council’s 22nd Annual Volunteer Awards luncheon at the California Center for the Performing Arts in Escondido.

Lehmann was selected for this prestigious award for his many years of dedication, service and accomplishments for the Music Society.

“Spencer is a founding member of our organization who possesses an exemplary track record and who knows our organization exceptionally well,” said Brenda Montiel, president of Fallbrook Music Society.

“He has greatly contributed to the success of our organization and we are truly grateful to him for his counsel, dedicated service and the selfless commitment that he has provided us for so many, many years,” she added.

Lehmann has been an enthusiastic volunteer for Fallbrook Music Society since he was a founder 31 years ago.

Demonstrating outstanding leadership and a deep passion for the organization, at 92 he is currently co-chair of Fallbrook Music Society’s Major Gifts Committee.

Lehmann recalls the beginnings of the Music Society’s activities in Fallbrook: “I remember carefully measuring the stage size at Potter Junior High 31 years ago, even before we had a theater, which convinced the San Diego Symphony Orchestra that they could fit on it and play for a Fallbrook audience. The town then had <a population of> about 20,000. That really got us started.”

In fulfilling its commitment to the community, Fallbrook Music Society’s involvement includes symphony and chamber concerts and youth music outreach programs in Fallbrook’s elementary schools, junior high and high school, providing inspiration and education to the broadest possible audiences.

The 2008-2009 Symphony Season offers the entire family the opportunity to share the joy and discovery of a live symphony concert and makes professional classical music readily accessible to the residents of Fallbrook and its surrounding communities.
