Fallbrook High School’s boys water polo team tied for second in the final Avocado League standings.
The Warriors finished the season with a 7-3 record in Avocado League competition.
Torrey Pines, which was undefeated in league play, won the Avocado League championship while Escondido also posted a 7-3 record. Fallbrook and Escondido split their two league matches.
“I think we earned second,” said Fallbrook coach Bob Lamont.
The loss to Escondido was by two goals. “On a good day we can play better than that,” Lamont said.
Fallbrook also lost by one goal to Vista, who was realigned into the Palomar League and who earned the top seed for the CIF Division I playoffs.
Fallbrook earned the fifth seed for the Division I playoffs, although the shallow-deep Fallbrook High School pool does not meet CIF playoff standards so Rancho Bernardo obtained home-pool advantage for the first-round match.
The Warriors finished the regular season with a 19-10 record.
Other than a desire to have a state-of-the art pool for his own team, Lamont didn’t mind playing the first-round match on the road.
“Rancho Bernardo’s a great facility,” he said.
Fallbrook’s overall regular-season record includes four wins in five contests at the Poway Invitational tournament, in which the Warriors finished third, and a 4-1 record in the San Diego Invitational.
The Warriors won three of five games at the America’s Finest City tournament.
“We did real strong in our tournament play this year,” Lamont said.
