A TWO VEHICLE COLLISION ON SR-76 RESULTS IN A FATALITY

(San Diego County) - On November 25, 2008 at approximately 6:20 PM, A West Covina man, age 26, was driving a 2001 Chevy Cavalier, eastbound on SR-76 west of Via Monserate. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Cavalier drifted onto the dirt shoulder, overcorrected and crossed over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic. Shane Noble, age 26, of Carlsbad, was driving a 1999 Chevy Pick-up, on SR-76 westbound. As the Cavalier slid sideways into westbound traffic, Noble, having no time to react, collided with right side of the Cavalier as it entered his lane. The driver of the Cavalier was pronounced dead at the scene. Noble and his 24 year old passenger suffered minor injuries. No alcohol and/or drugs are suspected in this collision.

SR-76 was shut down for approximately 2 hours to investigate the collision and removal of the vehicles involved.

The identity of the fatal victim is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin from the San Diego County Medical Examiners Office.
