Giving back to Fallbrook Food Pantry

FALLBROOK — Wendall Doty was one of 225 participants in the Thanksgiving Walk/Run to Feed the Hungry, sponsored by the Fallbrook Food Pantry, on Saturday, November 15.

Doty was homeless and had a drinking problem when he was first introduced to the Recovery Program at Riverview Evangelical Free Church in Bonsall several years ago.

Jay Lawrence, a member of the church, worked with Doty and referred him to the Fallbrook Food Pantry for assistance.

Doty has been receiving nutritional food allotments from the pantry on a weekly basis for the last couple years. He says that without that assistance he would have starved to death.

Less than a year ago, Doty was hit by a truck. He ended up in Tri-City Hospital, where he was cared for and released after three days. He still has a hyper-extended knee, two steel plates in his left leg and nine screws in his ankle.

In spite of his injuries, Doty wanted to give back to the Fallbrook Food Pantry. He asked friends to sponsor him in the Hunger Walk. He completed the entire walk and turned in a sponsor sheet with a sizeable amount in financial contributions.

Doty feels grateful to his sponsors, the people in the Recovery Program at Riverview Church and those at the Fallbrook Food Pantry for their assistance. He credits God with turning his life around.
