Good deed earns national recognition

Local Boy Scouts from Troop #725 were awarded Boy Scout Certificates of Merit on November 13 for their lifesaving efforts during a hike in June.

They included Scouts Brian Arnold and Henry Lauriello and Scout leaders Jonathan Berry and Russell McKissick, who administered first aid and shared food, water, a sleeping bag and a tent with a lady suffering from heatstroke in blistering heat on a hike in Julian.

This award, sent from the Boy Scout National Headquarters and rarely awarded, is described on the Boy Scout Web site as “National Certificate of Merit: The scout has performed a significant act of service that is deserving of special national recognition.”

The awards were presented by Santa Margarita District Representative Vic Enchelmayer.

Troop #725 is sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
