Warriors rumble past Mavericks for CIF win

On November 17, the Fallbrook varsity field hockey team played the La Costa Canyon Mavericks (LCC) in a CIF Playoff match and won 3-0.

Fallbrook came out ready to play with heart and determination. The Lady Warriors got off to a tremendous start in the first half and maintained their momentum for the entire match.

Fallbrook began attacking right from the start. They pressured the Mavericks and earned several penalty corners. The first score of the game came just over a minute of regulation by Fallbrook’s Kyle Little. A short time later, Warrior Lydia Brambila knocked in Fallbrook’s second goal.

LCC, overwhelmed by the onslaught, took a timeout to regroup. The timeout did little to slow down the aggressive Fallbrook offense.

Seven minutes into the game, Little scored her second goal of the match to give the Warriors a comfortable lead.

Throughout the first period, Fallbrook coach Kathy Waite smiled continuously.

Later, when asked why she had been so pleased with her team’s production, she replied, “It’s great to see them score early and stay focused.”

The Mavericks, on the other hand, played well, too. They played physically and aggressively. However, they were simply outplayed by the Warriors.

The second half did not provide enough time for the Mavericks as they fell to the Warriors for the third time this season.

The LCC players were frustrated throughout the game.

After the game, Kyle Little said, “I think it’s really great because LCC has been CIF Champions for the past three years.”

Coach Waite described the game as a “wonderful win.”

Fallbrook advanced in their CIF playoffs to face Torrey Pines.
