Grants presented by Bonsall Education Foundation

BONSALL — The Bonsall Education Foundation (BEF) announced the first and second round grant recipient awards for Bonsall Elementary School, Bonsall West Elementary School, Sullivan Middle School and Vivian Banks Charter School on November 22.

The following grants were funded: National Geographic Geography Bee program, performing arts purchase of plays, headphones for computers, books for Sullivan library, Elmo Visual Presenter, professional development for Computer-Using Educators registrations, Leveled Reader library, student scholarships, professional development for kindergarten teachers and sports equipment.

In total, more than $6,500 in grants were funded this fall.

“The Bonsall Education Foundation is providing a chance for our district’s educators to pursue opportunities, programs and materials that will enhance the school experience for our students and that might not otherwise be available to us,” said grant recipient Joey Stark, a fifth grade teacher at Bonsall West.

“Especially in tough economic times like we’re experiencing right now, this is an incredibly valuable resource for us,” Stark added. “Most importantly, the people who benefit most are the ones who truly matter: the students!”

The BEF raises funds to support “The Super Six” – teaching excellence; visual and performing arts; health and wellness; 21st century technology; science, math and curriculum enrichment; and library and media services.

Funding is received from private donations, corporate donations, community fundraising events and the weekly Bonsall Certified Farmer’s Market held at the Bonsall Community Center every Sunday.

“Even in the best of times, schools rely on the generosity of donors and the hard work of parents and teachers to raise needed funds,” said Shelley Moss, a grant committee member. “In today’s tough economic climate, the work of the Bonsall Education Foundation is even more necessary to provide the best educational experiences possible for all our students. I’m delighted to be a part of such a worthwhile endeavor.”
