Pearl Marie Weber Grote

Pearl Marie Weber Grote and her twin brother, Earl, were born to Pete and Julia Weber on March 7, 1918, at the family farm in Iowa.

Pearl attended country school, then St. Joseph’s Parochial School. She later attended Mrs. Brown’s School of Cosmetology. Pearl purchased her own business, the Cleo Beauty Shop, while still in her early twenties.

On a trip to California, Pearl was “reintroduced” to Harry Grote, whom she had met a few years earlier. They were married on January 20, 1941.

Harry and Pearl were blessed with four children, Regina, Lee, and twins Roland and Rita. Pearl was involved in the Women’s Council, the Legion of Mary and the Altar Society during those years. In addition, she was a den mother and a Girl Scout leader.

In 1969 Harry and Pearl found their little “piece of heaven” in Fallbrook. Harry tended to his avocado trees; Pearl became an accomplished artist and was an active member of the Fallbrook Art Association for several years and served as president of the guild.

Pearl was also an active board member for the Reche Club Schoolhouse and volunteered at the Fallbrook Senior Center. She was also nominated Distinguished Woman of the Year by Soroptimist International of Fallbrook.

Harry and Pearl traveled extensively, but their favorite trips were with family. They also treasured friendships established when they took up dancing, especially through the Boots & Slippers square dance club.

Pearl passed away on November 24, 2008. She is survived by husband Harry and their four children, 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, all of whom were made to feel “10 feet tall” by their dear grandmother.

Pearl’s years were filled with love and caring. She was an inspiration to all and will be thought of often and remembered fondly.

In her final days, she was lovingly cared for at the Skilled Nursing Facility in Fallbrook. Their kindness and support was greatly appreciated and the family requests that any donations be directed to them.

On Dec. 6, a memorial service will be conducted at St. Peter’s Catholic Church beginning with a viewing at 10 a.m. and a funeral mass at 11. Internment will be conducted at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery followed by a reception at the Fallbrook Senior Center.
