For 56 years, Manor Cleaners has stood the test of time

Manor Cleaners can be best described as a business rich with Fallbrook history and an establishment that has stood the test of time. Since it opened in 1952, Manor Cleaners has been a successful business that has served multiple generations.

The building that houses Manor Cleaners was built in 1930 and was recently eligible to be a historical property. This Western-style storefront nestled on East Mission is currently undergoing the paperwork process to be listed in the San Diego County Historical Registry. The building is owned by the Mungo family.

The Mungos, originally from the picturesque town of Calabria, Italy, are the third owners of Manor Cleaners. Currently, Paul and Dannai Mungo run this family-owned business.

“Paul’s parents actually purchased Manor Cleaners in 1992 and he took over the business in May 2004,” explained Dannai.

Prior to purchasing Manor Cleaners, the Mungo family owned a dry cleaning business in Long Beach after they arrived in the United States in 1979.

“After school, the Mungo children would help out with the business,” said Dannai. “Paul has been doing this since he was 8 years old.”

Manor Cleaners is deeply rooted within the Friendly Village and the Mungo family is honored to be part of such a tradition.

“Customers come here because of the longevity and they know that we have been around for a long time,” said Dannai, who pointed out their specialties in dry cleaning, alterations and embroidery.

Having a dry cleaning plant on-site is of big benefit. “We don’t send anything out,” Dannai said. “We review and double-check everything.”

Keeping a log as to how a client likes their dry cleaning done, this family business takes customer service to a new level.

And because of its on-site facility, fast turnaround projects can be done with ease. “And we don’t charge extra for that,” said Dannai.

While many businesses are turning toward greener alternatives these days, Manor Cleaners jumped on the eco-friendly bandwagon more than 12 years ago. It first switched its machines from Perk to Hydro-Carbon.

“Perk machines had a lot of harsh chemicals,” explained Dannai. At Manor Cleaners, their Hydro-Carbon machines use only eco-friendly products. “Being a green dry cleaner is better for our health and better for the environment.”

And on its carousel clothing rack, green nylon garment bags are bountiful. In August, said Dannai, it was decided that they would sell reusable garment bags. So far, they have sold 250 of these eco-friendly products.

“It has eliminated the use of plastic bags,” Dannai stated. “In the past three months, we have saved over 10,000 plastic bags that would have gone into our landfill.”

A self-proclaimed “recycling nut,” Dannai is ecstatic about how popular their garment bag project has become in such a short amount of time.

Manor Cleaners, an iconic Fallbrook business located inside a historical building, looks forward to serving many more generations of Friendly Village residents.

“Thank you for all the business you have given us and truly making a difference in helping us go green,” said Dannai.

Manor Cleaners is located at 125 East Mission Road and can be reached by phone at (760) 728-1307.
