Senator comments on Democrats' multi-billion-dollar tax increase, Dems continue spending spree and raise gas, income, sales taxe

SACRAMENTO — On December 18, Democrats passed out of the legislature their $18 billion budget package to raise taxes without Republican support.

Senator Dennis Hollingsworth (R-Murrieta) issued the following statement regarding the illegitimate $9.3 billion tax increase:

“The Democrats’ multi-billion-dollar tax increases on hardworking families will punish taxpayers and cause even more Californians to lose their jobs.

“Raising the sales tax and Personal Income Taxes will not help stimulate the economy, but it will take money out of peoples’ pockets when they need it most.

“With most families being forced to cut back just to get by, at the very least state government should cut back, not force average people to pay for their mismanagement.

“At a time when Californians are finally beginning to feel a little relief at the pump, Democrats are forcing a new $855 million statewide gas tax and an additional 13 cent per gallon gas tax. Then they’re going to force drivers to pay a $12 increase to the Vehicle License Fee.

“The worst part of this plan is that they are blatantly violating the Constitution by disregarding the two-thirds requirement to raise taxes.”

Dennis Hollingsworth represents the 36th Senate District. The district includes Southwest Riverside County, North and East San Diego County and portions of the City of San Diego.
