Enjoying, appreciating international foods

Fallbrook High School students enjoyed food from around the world as a result of the International Food Festival held December 17 on campus.

Students were able to select dishes from the Italian, Asian, Mexican, Polynesian and Classic Barbecue stations run by Associated Student Body (ASB) members.

The food fest had been an annual event until eight years ago, when food regulations stopped students from bringing in food from off campus to sell to the student body. However, students and faculty missed having the event, and began looking for a way to bring it back without violating food and health regulations.

ASB Director Joshua Way said the decision to bring the food fest back was made after he spoke with Food Services Director Dan Cappello and found that most popular international foods could be made in house by the cafeteria team.

“This is a perfect way to show the student body and the community what our food services team is capable of, as well as honor and celebrate the different cultures,” said Way.

It took four hours to prepare 340 lunches for the International Food Fest, but ASB students were excited about the activity, especially since the booth that sold the most food would win Starbucks gift cards.

“Hopefully, [the International Food Fest] will grow, and become better each year,” said Way.
