Brandon Gallery to feature Rita Miller in January

FALLBROOK- Rita Miller, long time member of Brandon Gallery, will be the featured artist for January. Miller will focus on printmaking for her exhibition entitled ‘The Versatile Print.’

Miller has been encouraged by the interest in printmaking over the last few years. When she became a member of Brandon Gallery in 1997, many local artists had little or no knowledge that the medium even existed.

It was a favorite of Rembrandt. The classical etching, done with metal plates and acid to etch the image onto the plate was the method used then and still is today.

When a metal plate etching is done, multiples can be pulled from that plate. Each print is considered an original work of art. Miller will have examples of etchings with the plates that were used to print them available for interested viewers at her reception January 10 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Miller said, “The increased interest in printmaking today is mainly in the monotype, or the painter’s print.” In the case of monotypes, an image is painted onto a plexi-glass plate, then printed with a press on to paper.

The printing always changes the image somewhat, and that is the excitement.

Her exhibition will include etchings, collographs, linocuts, and monotypes. She hopes to have a question and answer period for about 1/2 hour, between 2:30 and 3 p.m. with examples of the techniques available for interested parties to see.

Miller was a founding member of The San Diego and North County Printmakers, now based at the Fallbrook School of Art. The school has provided area for workshops that have become quite popular.

The Brandon Gallery is located at 105 North Main Ave, Fallbrook.
