Woman killed, three teens and two seniors injured in collision

Stormi Lou Arreola,42, of Fallbrook was killed in a head-on automobile collision on South Mission Road on Tuesday, December 30, at approximately 12:20 p.m. Her daughter and two other teenage girls, ages 13 to 16, that she was transporting home from an area mall, were seriously injured in the crash. A senior couple in the other vehicle, Ronald and Theodora Thompson, ages 70 and 65 respectively, sustained minor to moderate injuries. All accident victims were taken to area hospitals.

According to a California Highway Patrol report, Arreola was driving a 1987 Honda Accord northbound on South Mission Road, just north of Heller’s Bend, when she crossed over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic for “an unknown reason.”

“<Arreola> apparently veered to the right shoulder and tried to correct but crossed over the double yellow line where they were involved in a head on collision with an oncoming southbound vehicle,” a report from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office disclosed.

The Honda collided head on with a Mazda Millennia carrying the Thompsons. Arreola was pronounced dead at the scene, and two of the teenage girls were pinned inside the vehicle.

No alcohol or drugs are suspected in the collision.

Authorities closed South Mission Road for approximately five hours to investigate the collision and remove the vehicles involved
