AAUW, AVID enjoy holiday festivities

FALLBROOK — If the sweet singing of angels coming from the hills of Champagne Crest was heard during the recent Christmas season, the angels were real ones from the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) mentor program of Fallbrook High School singing songs of the festive season at the annual Fallbrook American Association of University Women (AAUW) Christmas party.

Carols were sung by the AVID girls and members of AAUW led by Chris Assad and accompanied on piano by Judy Barnett.

A novel gift exchange conducted by member Karen Langer Baker brought anticipation and excitement as the girls chose a variety of gifts.

The highlight of the party was the traditional decorating of the “tree,” which was, in fact, AVID student Ariana Bustos. The decorating was done by the girls using foil, beads, fabric and netting.

Prior to the party the girls baked cookies at the homes of the mentors and brought them to enjoy and exchange.
