Veterans contribute to military outreach

The San Diego Veterans For Peace, Chapter 91 (Hugh Thompson Memorial Chapter), which includes several members who are Fallbrook residents, recently delivered a truckload of nonperishable food, donated by members and friends of the chapter, to the La Mesa warehouse of Military Outreach Ministries (MOM).

MOM (www.militaryoutreach.org/index.html), a local ecumenical nonprofit organization, provides food and other necessities of life to junior enlisted military families in San Diego County who would otherwise go without.

In 2007 MOM helped more than 150 families of service people stationed at Camp Pendleton, but in 2008 that number increased to more than 400 families, in addition to families at other San Diego area bases.

The San Diego Veterans For Peace (www.sdvfp.org), a 501©3 educational veteran organization with both veteran and associate members, plans to continue their relationship with MOM into 2009 and hopes to organize a significant program to collect and donate food for this admirable group supporting young military families.
