Charlotte Josephine White

Charlotte Josephine White passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2009. She was born in San Diego on August 12, 1913. She loved Southern California and lived her entire life in the area.

Charlotte’s parents owned the 5 Cent Restaurant in San Diego in the 1930s and it was one of her favorite memories. She liked to reminisce about that time in her life. As a young girl, she lived on Utah Street and later moved to Idaho Street to her parents’ apartment complex, which they named the Charlotte Apartments.

She later moved to Long Beach to raise her only son, Daniel Winfield White. She owned and operated Charlotte’s Malt Shop in the Jergens Building at Ocean and Pike, then went on to open a health food store in Pacific Beach. She then moved to Main Street in Fallbrook and worked at Marcy’s Nutrition Shop in Vista and then moved to Vista.

Next stop was San Marcos before finally returning to Fallbrook, where she spent the past eight years. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church.

Charlotte is survived by daughter-in-law Loretta White; grandchildren Clyte, Julian and his wife Talene and Dylan White; and great-grandchildren Leilani, Rocco and Vince. Her son Daniel passed away in 1997.

Charlotte’s family and friends will truly miss her. She was a wonderful lady. She will be laid to rest with her parents and son at the Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Chula Vista.

The family suggests that memorial gifts may be given to Fallbrook First Baptist Church, 125 W. Hawthorne, Fallbrook, CA 92028.
