Colonel Robert J. Miille

Colonel Robert J. Miille, USMC Ret., passed away on January 2, 2009, after a hard-fought battle with leukemia. He was 81 years old.

Robert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anne Takvam Miille, and his sister Margaret Power and her husband Bill of Rancho Bernardo. Robert married Anne Takvam in 1953 in Bowie, AZ. They have five children – Michael, Christine, Susan, Brent and Ellen – and eight grandchildren.

A native of Ponca, NE, he was born on November 1, 1927, to Harry and Beryl Miille and lived in Ponca until 1945, when he graduated from high school, where he played football and basketball.

In 1946, he entered the Navy, and later attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Bainbridge, MD. In 1947, he entered the Naval Academy and upon graduation in 1951 was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps.

Bob served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired from the Marine Corps as a Colonel in 1974. Having previously received a Masters Degree in education, Robert followed his military career as a mathematics teacher at Potter Junior High in Fallbrook for 13 years.

Bob and Anne have lived in Fallbrook for the past 38 years.

Their five children live throughout California. Michael and his wife Mary Patricia Whelan-Miille live in Davis; daughter Lauren and son-in-law P.J. Go live in Los Gatos and their son Cameron in Pasadena. Christine and her husband Bob Henricks live in Alhambra. Susan and her husband John Hoffman live in Carlsbad with their three children, Kyle, Keaton and Kelly. Brent and his wife Sue live in Davis with their three children, Jed, Ema and Jake. Ellen lives in San Diego.

Interment, for the immediate family, will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the Fallbrook United Methodist Church at 1844 Winterhaven Road on Saturday, January 17, at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, San Diego Chapter, 4950 Murphy Canyon Road, Ste. 250, San Diego, CA 92123.
