TAGI explores music around the world

FALLBROOK — Throughout its 2008-2009 concert season, Fallbrook Music Society presents orchestral music that reflects the distinctiveness and unique traditions of cultures from around the world.

This theme celebrates composers and artists who have embraced the sounds of their native countries and incorporated them into their own musical styles.

The Music Society continues this “Sounds of Nations” concept on Sunday, January 18, at 3 p.m. with New York’s TAGI Trio in a program entitled “Around the World in 80 Minutes,” an exploration of classical music from, or inspired by, various countries throughout the world.

This magical program touches down in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas in a wonderfully entertaining presentation that is anchored in the classical tradition while rich in world influences.

TAGI showcases talented artists Sophie Shao on cello, Tatiana Goncharova on piano and Igor Begelman on clarinet.

This particular instrumentation enables the group to be extremely flexible in its expansive repertoire, which ranges from Baroque to the 21st century.

They perform both classical and contemporary music, presenting trios, duos and even solo pieces with equal aplomb.

This unique concert will be held at the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts, 2400 South Stage Coach Lane.

Tickets are $38 adult, $10 student, and can be purchased by calling (760) 451-8644 and online at http://www.fallbrookmusicsociety.org.
