OCEANSIDE — MiraCosta College is offering a new course in intravenous (IV) compounding and sterile solutions through its Community Services Program.

This course will assist students in obtaining employment in hospitals and homecare settings requiring IV experience.

It will also allow students to become more marketable and earn a higher wage than retail pharmacy technicians.

Topics covered include aseptic technique; IV order interpretation; IV, cassette and TPN preparation; reconstitution of IV meds; proper gowning procedures and hand-washing; identification of IV solutions; chemotherapy admixture and safe handling; IV calculations; and horizontal and vertical laminar air flow differences.

“Intravenous Compounding & Sterile Solutions” will meet eight Saturdays, February 21-April 25 (no class March 21 or April 11), from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Room 4526 at MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside.
