Architect, builder selected for new library Project completion anticipated in fall 2010

Fifth District Supervisor Bill Horn announced February 9 that a team of architects and contractors has been selected to create the new 20,000-square-foot library for the community of Fallbrook.

“This is a historic moment for the people of Fallbrook, Bonsall and the surrounding communities,” Horn said. “We have worked closely with community leaders and now our promise to complete the long-awaited facility is within sight. I’ll be in line with my library card in hand to check out a book as soon as it opens in fall of 2010.”

The County of San Diego selected the firm of C.W. Driver with their two architectural firms – Ferguson, Pape and Baldwin Architects and Manuel Oncina Architects – who will combine their respective talents to design and build the latest library in the county system.

Jose Aponte, county library director, said, “I am so pleased with what we are going to provide for the Fallbrook community. The new library will be a state-of-the-art facility and be a centerpiece for the community and reflect the area’s rural character.”

“I want to thank the Friends of the Library, including president Marlo Miller, task force chair Jerri Patchett, benefactor Arlene Ingold, Bob Jacobsen and so many others who helped us get this done,” said Supervisor Horn.

C.W. Driver’s Joe Gosshart, leader of the design/build team and LEED professional, gave a hint of what to expect: “The new structure will easily be capable of meeting LEED Silver criteria and the team will strive throughout the design process to meet LEED Gold criteria for sustainable design.”

Principles of “green design” will reduce the collective environmental impacts along with increasing the lifespan of the building components.

A community event is planned for June when residents will have an opportunity to review the completed design and meet the design-build team.
