Little, Russell selected to National Field Hockey Indoor Tournament

Two Fallbrook High School field hockey players have been selected to play in the National Field Hockey Indoor Tournament in March.

Kyle Little and Christine Russell, both juniors at Fallbrook High School, will be on the California regional team at the tournament which will be held March 6-8 in Virginia Beach, VA.

“I was so pleased that both of them were selected. Both of them are quality athletes,” said Kathy Waite, who coaches both the Fallbrook High School field hockey team during the CIF season and the Guac Girls club, which participates in a winter indoor league as well as outdoor tournaments outside of the CIF season.

During the outdoor field hockey season Little and Russell were both named to the Avocado League’s second team. On the outdoor team Little played left midfielder and Russell was Fallbrook’s left defender. Both have been on the Warrior varsity for two years.

The tryouts for the National Field Hockey Indoor Tournament took place January 24 at Kit Carson Park, where the Guac Girls participate in the North County Indoor League. Tara Jelley Davidson will coach the California team at the national tournament. Davidson made the selections of Little and Russell.

“I was just ecstatic that they chose both,” Waite said.

Davidson made comments to Waite about the two Fallbrook players selected. “She really liked Kyle’s style and manner of play,” Waite said of Little.

Davidson also had commendations of Russell. “She liked her heart and her toughness,” Waite said.

The California roster includes a total of ten players. The indoor version of field hockey has six players, including the goalkeeper, on each side.
