Perez wins first place in competition

FALLBROOK — For the second year in a row, a student from teacher Dave Evans’ College Prep economics class has captured first place honors in the InvestWrite competition of the Stock Market Game.

Senior Yesica Perez, recently honored as a Student of the Month along with her sister Maribel, beat all high school competition in the San Diego Region in the essay competition.

The San Diego Region is one of three in the state, comprising a third of California’s high schools. The contest requires students to answer an essay prompt in 700 words or less.

This year’s prompt required students to select and research the stock of two companies in the same industry, then determine which stock was the better investment and why.

“Yesica never ceases to amaze me,” Evans said. “To win a competition like this with only three years of learning English under her belt is just incredible. It is a tribute to the dedication and hard work of a truly exceptional young woman.”
