Rotary provides funds for Uganda hospital, Salvation Army

The Rotary Club of Fallbrook recently presented checks in the amount of $8,088.37, the result of bell ringing at Major Market and Albertsons the three weekends before Christmas, to Capt. Wayne Patterson of the Salvation Army’s North County Coastal District.

The Soroptimist Club of Fallbrook assisted in the red bucket collection.

The holiday season bell-ringing is an annual program for the Fallbrook club.

Also presented at the meeting were funds for surgical equipment for the Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital in Uganda, Africa.

The funds, which bring the total to $18,800, were received by Lane Freestone, co-founder of the hospital, the first in Uganda. Freestone represents the Arch Diocese in Mbarara, Uganda.

These funds came from the Fallbrook Rotary Foundation plus other Rotary International matching grants.

The equipment will be placed in the now-under-construction hospital’s surgical center and includes two major sterilization units and an x-ray unit.

The project was initiated by the Rotary Club of Fallbrook, which has completed other matching grant programs, such as the digging of a well for a village, in Africa in the past.
