Two-vehicle collision on SR76 results in fatality

A Fallbrook resident was seriously injured and an unidentified man killed after colliding on State Route 76 on Tuesday, February 17.

Edward Alan Cory, 55, of Fallbrook, was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 westbound on SR76, east of Rincon Creek Road, at an unknown speed when his vehicle approached a curve, left the roadway and crossed onto the dirt shoulder.

Cory’s Dodge collided with a telephone pole, crossed back into the eastbound lane, then collided with a 2005 GMC van carrying the unidentified man, who was traveling eastbound at an unknown speed.

Cory, who was not seat-belted, was ejected out the front window of the Dodge.

Both parties sustained major injuries and were transported to Palomar Medical Center. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at Palomar Medical Center.

It is unknown if alcohol/and or drugs were a factor in this collision.

SR76 was shut down for approximately three hours to investigate the collision and remove the involved vehicles.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.
