Hooray for the Hukilau!

Thank you, Fallbrook Golf Club and the Hukilau, for organizing one of the best Valentine’s Days these two senior swingers have ever enjoyed! My husband and I signed up for the bargain “Golf and Dine” package on sunny February 14.

Only in Fallbrook (or maybe in Camelot, too!) could the weather wizard conjure up such a perfect golfing day. We were teamed up for nine holes with a delightfully compatible couple who live just around the corner from us, though we hadn’t met them before.

After our round, as is our wont, we adjourned to the Huki bar and socialized with more old friends, while John Toma and his hardworking staff transformed the lounge and restaurant into a romantic red-and-white Valentine’s bistro.

We had a charming table for two beside the dance floor which Lido and Henry Favela of ACE Party Productions had set up along with their best disco entertainment for our dancing pleasure.

Then, on came the food…surf and turf, delicious steaks and seafood veggie skewers, and finally a piece de resistance by our favorite chef Lupe: Bananas Foster Flambé! It was truly a gourmet feast. Then we danced, and danced…

Best of all, it’s all within walking distance of us: a friendly neighborhood tavern where we have no worries about imbibing and driving. Just what we’ve been looking for ever since we left England 36 years ago!

Thank you John, Lupe, and all!

Sue and Frank Thorne
