AVID students attend International Luncheon

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook American Association of University Women (AAUW) prepared an International Luncheon for the Fallbrook High School AVID students at the home of Jim and Jean Dooley.

AVID (Achievement Via Individual Determination), a program offered to students at Fallbrook High School, has approximately 23 girls who are mentored by members of the AAUW to provide social and cultural opportunities for them. The luncheon celebrated world diversity via foreign dishes prepared by the mentors.

Barbara Ajello, who chairs the mentors’ group, spoke to the girls about applying for student scholarships including exchange opportunities, as well as future activities for the girls. Jim Dooley spoke about the American Field Service and the scholarships it provides to serious contenders.

Also on hand were foreign students currently attending Fallbrook High School who talked about their experiences as exchange students. The students are from Norway, Belgium, Brazil and Japan and each are hosted by families in Fallbrook.
