AAUW hears about Fresh Start

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook American Association of University Women (AAUW) hosted guest speaker Candise Flippin, director of Fresh Start, at their general meeting on February 21, coordinated by Young Milton and Emma Ureta-Ruiz.

Fresh Start director Flippin presented an informative program entitled “Advocating Equity through Medical Gifts.” The program helped AAUW members to understand how young children with physical deformities which may have been caused by either birth defects, accidents or abuse are able to live normal lives through the help of surgery.

Fresh Start makes this happen when specialists in the medical field donate their expertise to help these children. Private donations and a large, dedicated, volunteer staff make this possible. AAUW member Susan Duling donates her dental expertise to this cause.

Flippin concluded her presentation by quoting Dennis Nigro, MD, FACS, FICS, founder and president Emeritus of Fresh Start: “Our children are the living messages we send to a time and place we will never see.”
