Where is the drought?

Since December 1 through February, I measured 15 inches of rainfall on my property. This is 50 percent above average rainfall. Last year we had average rainfall. My son in Fresno informed me that more than six feet of snow has fallen in the mountains.

Where is this drought condition recently reported by the water authorities? These water authorities are absolute failures. In 1991, San Diego County had a drought condition and their only solution was to conserve water, allow new construction and new customers while waiting 17 years for another drought and we allowed these bums to stay in office.

The Village News’ recent report on waste and fraud by the Avocado Association was shocking. I never understood why the Avocado Association refused to use their political clout against both the Metropolitan and San Diego County water authorities when these water authorities, prior to this last election, discriminated against the avocado growers in favor of new construction.

Every member of the San Diego County Water Authority is a water district director or general manager and many were running for reelection. What is more troublesome is the fact that the growers tolerated this inaction by the Avocado Association. Are they all wimps?

Seagoing merchant ships, every country’s navy ships and submarines, Tampa Bay City, Guantanamo Bay, Israel, Australia, Spain and the Middle East all use seawater desalination. San Diego County water authorities need to modernize their operations and pursue available Pacific Ocean seawater desalination or be terminated.
