EDITH prepares for fires

Cal Fire stresses the importance of having a home fire escape plan. Those who do not have a plan are encouraged to draw one up, discuss it with their families and practice EDITH, or Exit Drills In The Home.

Additionally, Cal Fire offers the following tips:

• Always sleep with the bedroom door closed and know two ways out of every room.

• If the smoke detector goes off (or if someone sees or smells smoke), feel the door for heat before opening it. If the door is hot, use an alternate escape route.

• Crawl low in smoke and meet in a pre-designated location.

• Call 9-1-1 from a neighbor’s house.

According to Cal Fire, once someone is out of a burning building, he should stay out. Be fire safe, not sorry!
