Car club donates to gymnastics team

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club recently donated money to the Fallbrook High School girls’ gymnastics team.

Four seasons ago, the team fielded a group of only eight gymnasts. In 2008 it fielded 32 and has qualified as a team for CIF – the first time in over a decade.

The team is looking to do the same this year.

Today they are a strong competitor in the Avocado League. This is tribute to Debbie Mericle and Heather Hawthorne, who have brought the team to this level of success with a “can-do” spirit.

The check will go toward the purchase of a new balance beam for the team gymnasium.

This year the car club’s annual car show will be held on the grounds of Potter Jr. High School on Sunday, May 24, which is Memorial Day weekend.

Anyone who has a vintage car and would like to enter it in the show can log on to http://www.fallbrookvintagecarclub.com for an entry form or call Mike Johnson at (760) 723-8286.

Johnson is also responsible for the Car Corral, which is a venue for 25-year-and-older cars for sale at the show. Proceeds from the annual event allow the club to support local charities.

Membership in the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club is not limited to vintage car owners; anyone who shares an enthusiasm for the hobby is welcome.
