Supervisors approve Knottwood extension Mitigated Negative Declaration, easement dedication offer

Near-term plans for Fallbrook include the construction of a paved road which will connect Knottwood Way between the Granite Hills and Sycamore Ranch subdivisions.

While construction is not expected to begin until 2010, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 September 16 to adopt the environmental Mitigated Negative Declaration, adopt the Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Program, accept a road easement dedication offer, and authorize negotiations with five property owners for right-of-way acquisition.

“This is just the preliminary step,” said county Department of Public Works deputy director Mike Robinson.

The Knottwood extension would construct a two-lane road between the Granite Hills and Sycamore Ranch subdivisions which would complete Knottwood from Gird Road to Linda Vista Road.

Each of the two subdivision builders is responsible for constructing Knottwood to the limits of the subdivision property, and the county will construct approximately 500 feet between the two subdivisions.

The county segment will involve the advertisement for bid and subsequent award of a construction contract, and construction is expected to begin in the spring.
