Massage Studio therapists help relieve pain

Within the quaint Heritage Square garden sits The Massage Studio, a highly regarded establishment whose professional therapists’ skill has helped numerous clients since 1989.

The earthy interior décor, infused with serenity, transports clients to an outstanding therapeutic experience.

Celebrating 20 years in business, owner Lori Lang-Scott often reminisces how The Massage Studio was born. In essence, it all began with a serious back injury sustained in 1984.

“During that time of distress and pain, I was terribly disappointed with the form of pain management I received,” Lang-Scott said. “My daily life of being a productive person, wife and mother of a 1-year-old child was going downhill fast.”

A positive turning point for Lang-Scott occurred when she met Shanda Hammond, a recognized massage therapist. Their relationship, Lang-Scott said, blossomed into a lifelong friendship.

“After the first [massage] session I felt hope, was rejuvenated, cared for and, most of all, my symptomatic pain was relieved,” Lang-Scott said. “My orthopedic doctor was impressed by the results and wrote out a prescription for me to continue with the therapy.”

While Hammond continued to help Lang-Scott, the diagnosis of her back injury was finally revealed. Lang-Scott needed surgery for a ruptured disc and sacral iliac joint displacement.

“Shanda’s healing hands, great friends and continued family support got me through my surgery and recuperation,” she said.

A year following surgery, Lang-Scott and her husband were blessed with their second child.

“Again, massage therapy helped me through a pregnancy that wasn’t easy on my back, and I continued with it for my wellbeing and life management,” Lang-Scott said.

When Lang-Scott became fully healed, she had an epiphany. “I wanted to help at least one person the way massage therapy helped me,” she said. Believing in the power of massage, she trained in therapy technique and became licensed.

Lang-Scott and Hammond joined forces and opened The Massage Studio. For Lang-Scott, the Heritage Square Garden was the perfect spot; in her younger years, it was where she retreated to study and read.

Not long after The Massage Studio opened, Hammond moved to Washington. Lang-Scott, who was only working part-time, found herself in a quandary.

As a mother, she never intended to become a full-time massage therapist. However, she listened to her instincts and decided to keep the business.

“With the support from my husband, parents and friends, I continued to build a strong, consistent place of healing for many,” she said.

Since 1989, Lang-Scott and her team of licensed massage therapists have helped thousands of people. Their distinction is tailoring each massage to the needs of their clients.

Doctors and chiropractors have recognized their great skill and wonderful client care and continue to refer their patients to The Massage Studio.

“With expanded recognition in the medical realm, massage therapy is definitely shedding its former perception as a luxury and embracing its new role as a necessity,” Lang-Scott said.

Through therapeutic massage, many have found relief from arthritis, back and neck pain, fibromyalgia, high and low blood pressure, diabetes, stress reduction and more.
